Self-Help Resources

Here are some tools you can use to help you deal with the IRS by yourself. But, remember, we are here to help whenever you need us.

1. How to understand the notice:

2. If you think you may have other notices that you have missed receiving, you can find them by setting up your own online IRS account here:

3. What if you agree that you owe the amount but don’t have the money to pay it?

The worst thing you can do is ignore the problem. It will just get bigger and bigger.

You may be eligible for help from the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC). You can find it here:

4. If you don’t qualify for help from the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic, you can arrange to make payments over time here:

5. If you have tried to resolve the issue and have not been able to, the Taxpayer Advocate may be able to help you.
